Now What?

[What to read before] - John 16:33; 1 John 2:15; Mark 4:20; 2 Corinthians 5:17

Every believer knows what I'm talking about when I say spiritual high. It's that feeling of being on fire for Christ. It's that feeling maybe at a conference or retreat that leaves you tearful and excited for your walk with Christ.

Over the weekend I was privileged enough to see the tail end of a youth conference. The room was filled with praises to the King and tons of teenagers surrendering their all to Christ. It's always exciting seeing new believers and watching them worship after that life-changing decision. However, the easy part is being in that room with tons of other new-found believers on fire for Christ. But what happens when that weekend filled with praises turns into a Monday? Now what?

On a daily basis we're faced with new trials, big or small, where we have a decision to make. That decision is whether or not we'll choose to live like Christ. For a lot of us, it's easier at times to live like the world. It's easier to be the same instead of being different. However, we're told in John 16:33 that we are going to have tribulations and hard periods of our life. Being a christian isn't an easy task and at times not a very popular one either.

When those kids go back, there's still going to be temptation around the corner waiting for them. The gossiping in their friend group isn't going to stop but what can is how they handle it. Instead of going along with the world, we're called to stand firm in our faith. We're not supposed to be of the world and if we are that's a problem. 1 John 2:15 tells us that if we love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

So with that new-found faith comes a new way of living. Instead of using our tongue to tear down others, lets use it to bring glory to God. Instead of using social media to broadcast our selfish desires and thoughts, we can choose to be selfless and strive to make His name great, not ours.

Now here comes the "now what" factor. What can we do as believers to maintain a relationship with our Savior? Well, it's quite simple: READ YOUR BIBLE! PRAY! Sure, those are the typical "Christianese-Sunday school answers" but there's a reason people still say that. It's because it's the truth and it works, trust me.

So this week, if you find yourself starting this walk with Christ or maybe you're even a 50-year believer, get into His word and pray that He will speak to you through it, it never fails. Isaiah 55:11 tells us that His word never returns void.

So as we prepare our hearts for the week ahead, I pray that we will stand firm in our faith and hold fast to our Cornerstone, Jesus Christ.
